My Desk. My little slice of Heaven. My desk is where I do most of my creative work. Working in coffee shops or the library is great and it's really nice to get out, but I love working at my desk because it's one place where I can work for hours on end in my own little world without any interruption. I designed the entire workspace in conjunction with a principle used by one of my favorite filmmakers, Casey Neistat. Everything is designed and placed for productivity. You always have to have a desktop computer. A laptop just doesn't cut it for me. I use a 2010 MacMini with a 1TB Hard Drive and 16GB of ram combined with a 24" Dell monitor that gives me all the space I need without taking up too much of my view out the window :) I'm also a mouse whore - I always keep three on my desk, for two reasons: 1. I hate it when they run out of battery when I'm in the middle of something important. 2. It's a lot more productive to use a trackpad, or trackball for some things, and a regular mouse for others - so you need all three... right...? You'll see an 8-port USB hub to the left of the computer because the only thing worse than having to reach-around the back of the computer to plug something in is running out of ports for USB drives. For recording, I use a 16-channel Behringer FireStudio interface with ADAT racked in a Gator Mobile RackBag so I can pull it and take it to any location audio recording session or even into the studio. I have a PreSonus Monitor Station on my desk that allows me to control which speakers or headphones I'm pushing music to and choose whether I want that sound to come from the desktop, laptop, my iPhone via BlueTooth or the TV: because I hate fumbling around with the stupid AUX cable. This outputs to a pair of Stanton ATM.6 speakers as well as a pair of Mackie CR4s on channels A & B respectively. Always available is a Blue enCORE 100 on a boom-stand with a Stedman ProScreenXL for voice-over recording on videos I'm producing. Yes, I do have a really sexy voice-over voice ... ... ... in my dreams. Speaking of Blue... yes, I do have the new Blue MoFi Headphones, and yes, they are amazing. My desk doesn't really have much on it, but it's a space I created to make working easy. I like having everything I could possibly need in a hurry ready and in arms reach - chargers, stapler, tape, pens, scissors and rulers - all that stuff, because I HATE DRAWERS. Opening a drawer every single time I need a pen or the stapler seems like a colossal waste of time to me.
Work is about productivity, and creating an efficient environment is the first step to a better workflow.
